Find out more about BlackBerries, iPhones, and Windows/Nokia mobile devices below. UNLV fully supports BlackBerries as the primary business mobile device and provides information on the others. Lotus Notes for the Android is in beta.

BlackBerry

BlackBerries are wireless handheld devices that provide real time e-mail, telephone, text messaging, web browsing, multimedia, and other wireless data access. BlackBerries use push-based technology to automatically delivery your Lotus Notes e-mail and calendar entries to your handheld via the UNLV Blackberry Enterprise Server. Blackberries the supported mobile handheld devices for campus. They offer more complete Lotus Notes functionality than some other devices. 

To get a BlackBerry:

  1. Purchase a BlackBerry device from a cell phone provider (like Sprint). If making an institutional purchase, contact UNLV Purchasing to ensure your contract meets requirements.
  2. Make sure you get a cellular plan and a data plan from the provider.

To access Lotus Notes on your BlackBerry:

  1. BlackBerry service requires payment of an annual client access license fee. The current cost is $100 each year. Once you have purchased your BlackBerry device and service, complete the BlackBerry Request Form. Send the completed form to mail stop 1075, attn: OIT BlackBerry. Access to the Blackberry server will not be enabled until the IDR form has been completed and processed by OIT.
  2. After OIT processes your BlackBerry Request Form, a technician will contact you to schedule any installation and activation assistance you may need.
  3. OIT will invoice you or your department every year for the Client Access License. Failure to renew your license within 30 days of receipt of the notice will result in loss of service.

Apple iPhone 

Wirelessly synchronize your iPhone with Lotus Notes e-mail, calendar and contacts with Lotus Notes Traveler v. 8.5.2. Follow these steps:

  1. From your iPhone, log in to the Lotus Notes Traveler 8.5.2 download website with your Lotus Notes web username and password. 
  2. Click Configure your Apple iPhone/iPod Touch
  3. Click Generate
  4. Click Install Now. Enter your Lotus Notes web password again.

Customize what's on your iPhone

  • See the UNLV address book through Phone > Contact > Lists
  • Disable synchronization of your UNLV contacts in your iPhone. Click General Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Lotus Notes Traveler > Contacts On or Off
  • Choose how much mail to synch to your iPhone, like the last 3 days, 2 weeks, 1 month. Click General Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Lotus Notes Traveler > Mail Days to Sync

Windows Mobile/Nokia Devices

While we do not fully support Windows Mobile devices, we provide information and guidance when we are able to. OIT provides and assists with Lotus Traveler from IBM. This application allows you to synchronize Lotus Mail, Calendar, To Do and Notepad items wirelessly to a Windows Mobile device.

You can use Lotus Traveler on the Windows Mobile 5 or 6 devices listed below:

  • Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC
  • Windows Mobile 5.0 Smart Phone
  • Windows Mobile 6.0/6.1 Pocket PC
  • Windows Mobile 6.0/6.1 Smart Phone

To set up Lotus Notes Traveler:

  1. Make sure your handheld is connected to a wireless network
  2. On your Windows Mobile Device, right click the download bootstrap link and save the file to your My Documents Folder.
  3. Go to the UNLV Traveler download website and select the appropriate device and language to download the file.  
  4. Open the NotesTravelerxxxx.cab file and follow the on screen instructions.
